DESCRIPTION:Join us for a series of Genealogy classes covering topics on research\, resources\, and stories about history. For January\, we will learn about the Brady Gang. \;From\na historical prospective one of the most tragic events in White County would\nhave to be the ambush killing of Trooper Paul Minneman that occurred in 1937 at\nthe Caley Church. \; The notorious Brady\nGang had robbed State Bank of Kentland and were headed east after the\nheist. \; \;Trooper Minneman staked out Hwy\n16 in Cass Township east of Buffalo. \;An exchange of gunfire occurred and then the dust cloud\ncreated by the bank robbers ceased. \; The\ntrooper knew that either the offenders pulled off the road or turned onto a\ncounty road. \; Trooper Minneman turned\naround and pulled into the Caley Church. \;\nThe gang had already set up an ambush complete with a retrofitted WWI\n.30 cal. machine gun. \; As Trooper\nMinneman started to get out of his vehicle\, the Brady Gang opened fire with\nrifles and the machine gun. \; Minneman was\ncritically wounded as was Deputy Hicks. \;\nMinneman would die two days later but Hicks recovered.\n\nThe presentation by State Trooper David Morrison (retired)\nhas spent 30 years researching the Brady Gang and will share their exploits and\ntheir eventual demise. \;
